PULSE OF INDIA

The flamenco dancer Bettina Castaño has created a new program called Pulse of India. It is unique, special, very delicate, enormously expressive, and has an extremely dynamic virtuosity which is unparalleled.

The musicians who developed this new program together are, on the one hand, the Chenda master, Mattanur Sankarankutty; he is truly the greatest Indian master on this percussion instrument. February 2009  he got personally from the President of India the Padma Shri award (is an award given by the Government of India generally to Indian citizens to recognize their distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the Arts, Education, Industry, Literature, Science, Sports, Social Service and public life)

On the other hand, another percussionist: Karuna Moorthy (www.karunamoorthy.com), a divinely gifted Tavil musician, also an extraordinary master of this instrument. Both play together with very diverse musicians and have travelled the entire world. Their percussion is based on the holy rhythms of temple music and the temple dances which originated over 10,000 years ago. And then, Juan Gotán, a master of the Spanish guitar. His sensitive, very dynamic way of playing, created with a particularly beautiful guitar sound, sets a counterpoint to the mood of this program.

This unique presentation of dance, Indian percussion and guitar sets standards which have, until now, not been realised.
